Shy guys finish last
Remember the LOCI episode "Want" about "shy guy" John Tagman? He might have benefited from reading Mr. Gray's self-help book. To play devil's advocate, shyness can be crippling in women as well as men. However, it's more socially acceptable for women to be shy, as shyness is considered an attractive feminine quality in some cultures. Still, if a woman is too shy to attend social events or attempt to interact with people in general, she'll have just as much trouble with dating as a man would. If she's attracted to a man she knows or happens to meet, and she's waiting for him to make the first move, what can she do if he doesn't? His failure to do so can be viewed as a rejection and make her feel unattractive and doubt her self-worth.
